I have been Saying it for Years – Pine Beetle Infestation was due to Fire Suppression not Climate

October 23rd, 2009

New report on the Pine Beetle from Colorado states that Forest Management namely fire suppression is what lead up to the infestation of Pine beetles that decimated Western North American pine forests.

Pine beetles as a harbinger of manmade climate change destruction

I worked in the Forest Industry in the late nineties in British Columbia, Canada and was there in the forest looking at the first major infestations in person. I also harvested live beetles in -40C temperatures during the winter negating the claims that cold winters killed off the beetles which is the Global Warming theory that beetle populations are killed off in cold winters. Through our forestry research we determined that lack of natural forest fires when the conditions were optimum for the beetle to migrate lead to the massive killing off of whole stands of pine, the actual environment that the beetles like (dry, warm) are also the exact conditions that lead to natural forest fires. These naturally occurring fires completely destroy the colonies of beetles because the trees they infest become very combustible and burn very quickly, which is also something I witnessed,  the trees literally explode in flames. I was also in a meeting with the British Columbia Ministry of Forests where we presented a plan to contain the beetle outbreak by burning infected areas plus an addition 1000 meters around the perimeter in a controlled manner, we were told that the policy of Zero Tolerance for using fires to manage the forests was the official policy. This was 1998.

Over the past decade I have, before I had this blog and even recently on an article regarding Gavin Schmidt’s Climate Picture Book I have been telling this story of how the Pine Beetle was man’s fault, but not for the reason being reported. It now seems that real research and not environmental dogma has actually taken place and all the work we did in late 1997 and early 1998 has been vindicated. Too late to stop the damage but maybe not too late to change the policies on forest management that lead to these types of problems.

National Wildlife Foundation is a Hunting Advocacy Group?

October 20th, 2009

Read on Reuters. Read on Sunday. Trying to stop laughing.

U.S. hunters, anglers lobby for climate bill

Ok the main group behind this "lobbying effort" is…. The National Wildlife Federation… you know that big hunting and angling group! That is like saying Greenpeace is an association of Whale Harvesting Enthusiasts.

This is the group behind the "Certify your Garden as Wildlife Friendly" Program. The NWF is a knock off of the WWF and has the exact same agenda and goals as they do in the area of species preservation, land endowments and you guessed it Global Warming Hysteria.

The reporters took a Press release that had a study funded by the NWF containing data regarding hunters and anglers and extrapolated that to the headline. Then they wonder why MSM is struggling, well it is because they suck at their jobs.

Visit the National Wildlife Federation and spot their Hunting Advocacy outreach program.

6% Down and only 14% more to Go!

October 7th, 2009

Ok John Kerry ran for President and many thought that he lost because of Republican tactics and the now infamous "Swift Boat" attacks, but I read a piece today that I have to recommend reading as to why he really lost, that being because he is an idiot of epic proportions.

It appears the charges of Democrats being anti-growth and anti-economic activity is true and Senator Kerry Admits Recession is a Good Thing in the Fevered Minds of Democrats when it comes to Climate Change! – read here.

"Let me emphasize something very strongly as we begin this discussion. The United States has already this year alone achieved a 6 percent reduction in emissions simply because of the downturn in the economy, so we are effectively saying we need to go another 14 percent."

If this one statement is not the single most stupid thing ever said by a sitting Senator in the middle of a recession with a mid-term election coming up then I do not know what it possibly could be. Topping it off he said it in a hearing about Cap and Trade! I am rather speechless. In Fact it is so idiotic that I actually did not believe it at first and had to get confirmation! I found it here. I am still looking for the actual hearing though on CSPAN and will post that when I locate it, so for now take it with a grain of salt and as partially verified until I get confirmation of dates and text or video of the hearing.

This ties into a previous post I made as a simple observation earlier this year, now confirmed by Senator Kerry…

Some Good News and Some Bad News

The point is that the Democrats trying to ram climate legislation containing any sort of price on emissions down our thoughts know what the impact will be and simply do not care. While I was looking for the Kerry quote I found Senator Boxer explaining that the EPA finding and rules on GHG emissions really is a hammer being used to scare the Senate and Industry into  accepting this plan (in Boxer’s Closing Remarks at the end of this hearing).

The Cap and Trade from both the House and Senate are so ripe with rent seeking provisions for certain companies that the entire cap and trade system is unfair and flawed fatally. Big energy names like PG&E, and PNW are all leaving the US Chamber of Commerce because of the Chamber’s resistance to the EPA and Cap and Trade and are looking only at the potential for huge trading profits from free allowances, profits that will not be passed onto consumers as these utilities can raise prices in lock step with the ones most affected while gaming the market on any excess credits by minor investments in renewable research and development or token solar or wind farms which will pay a nice healthy taxpayer funded PTC to them as well.

This practice will only serve to enrich those corporations that have political patronage by democratic representatives who secured free tradable emissions credits to sign onto the cap and trade legislation. Apple is leaving the Chamber as well sighting Climate Change as the reason, I sight poor judgment by a company selling based solely on image trying to appease what it feels is its target demographic, a portion of the population who really could not give a crap about Apple’s "green-ness"only that they produce cool "got to have" gadgets at outrageous prices. They could burn a Polar Bear a day to heat their HQ and people would still flock to Apple Stores to get the next newest iThing.

The End of Science – Believe Global Warming if you want acceptance in your chosen field…

September 28th, 2009

Exile for Non-Believers’, by Joanne Nova, published by the Science and Public Policy Institute, September 2009

There is a Polar Bear researcher who is by far the most experienced with the animals in the wild and he is Mitch Taylor and has been studying these white giants for 30 years. He is considered an expert on the subject of Polar Bear Ranges, population and health of the species and his input should be sought after whenever anyone wants to look at climate impacts on the Polar Bear population, and that scientific data has been sought out for many years, until now…

It appears that Taylor’s opinions around Anthropogenic Global warming and the impact on the Polar Bear is no longer welcome at the University of Alberta’s Polar Bear Speciality Group. He was not invited to this years meeting of the group, which he has attended for several years by invitation, not because his research is flawed or he committed some scientific fraud, but because his position on the impacts of AGW on the species. You see he does not think that the bears are in any measurable danger for global warming and that AGW itself is not the danger it is made out to be. So instead of an invitation this year he got a dear John letter from a outgoing President of the PBSG…

Hi Mitch,
The world is a political place and for polar bears, more so now than
ever before. I have no problem with dissenting views as long as they
are supportable by logic, scientific reasoning, and the literature.
I do believe, as do many PBSG members, that for the sake of polar
bear conservation, views that run counter to human induced climate
change are extremely unhelpful. In this vein, your positions and
statements in the Manhattan Declaration, the Frontier Institute, and
the Science and Public Policy Institute are inconsistent with positions
taken by the PBSG.
I too was not surprised by the members not endorsing an invitation.
Nothing I heard had to do with your science on harvesting or your
research on polar bears – it was the positions you’ve taken on global
warming that brought opposition.
Time will tell who is correct but the scientific literature is not on the
side of those arguing against human induced climate change.
I look forward to having someone else chair the PBSG.
Best regards,
Andy (Derocher)

Global warming propaganda and politics wins out over science and real research and this is not the only example in Joanne Nova’s excellent paper. Is this the future of science in the world, where only tight and rigid adherence to the core dogma that everything must by looked at through the AGW lens? If so science has reverted back to the days when the Holy Roman Empire required all science to be approved by the Pope as to avoid any heresy.

People be aware that science is being usurped by a political agenda and these are peers and committees that speak for groups of scientists and the same peer reviewers that lend credence to the AGW proponents "science" ( something I think is silly and false) and show that the politics have corrupted the existing science and any future research.

Thomas Friedman – Communist For Hire

September 9th, 2009

Thomas Friedman believes in his heart of hearts that communism has some advantages, like not having to deal with that pesky "Democracy" and that "We the people" nonsense that is getting in the way of his social agenda.

Read it here – New York Times Op/Ed

Friedman is simply responding to his desire to assert his will and his frustration at people who have different ideas than he does blocking his saving of us from well..us. Friedman does not lust for power (just ask him), but he is so convinced that he is right and it allows him to be qualified to make decisions for society at large and actually believes that things would be much better if they did it his way. It is a severe case of Intellectual Arrogance and is the real problem with the ideologues that make up the ranks of the progressives who are the Intellectual Left Leaning people in Academia and Media.

Worse yet he has been completely seduced by the PR Campaign from China in the areas of renewable energy and other carbon-reduced technologies. China is enlightened all right, they know that the perception of the Intellectual Elites like Friedman can influence global opinion leading into Copenhagen, they got marketing down cold. Friedman really believes that China is serious about renewables, they are not, the relatively small amount invested and the proclamations of the Party Leaders is for foreign relations, high brows like Friedman and to deflect criticism leading into the climate talks this winter.

Why is that the "Intellectuals" are always the biggest rubes in the room? Simple… play to their egos.

This has been the case since the emergence of modern political governance, so it should not be surprising that intellectual arrogance leads to the love-affair of communism and socialism through totalitarian regimes as a preferable way of forcing society (read people) into complying with your personal social agenda.

Friedman as all far left leaning economists has a Nobel, successful books and huge lecture fees, you know all the trappings and wealth he can amass as a member of a free market society and can afford to opine about how perfect a world would be if people just did as he said, for their own good. He really is the best Communist for Hire at the New York Times.

If they wanted to be High Tech they could use Windmills

September 6th, 2009

Ok I just stopped laughing from reading this about 15 minutes ago, it has to be one of the most moronic statements issued since man stopped milling flour with windmills.

The set up for this is a mining company in Northern Quebec that uses electric Shovels and presumably has a mill to power was considering the option of a mini-nuclear reactor because they required 10Mw of reliable 24 hour a day power. When the Environmental Wingnuts heard about it they of course went off on the idea to the media.

Read the CBC Article Here

Is this really to be taken seriously as a legitimate position and optional solution? Windmills are the high tech answer?

Then he goes on and I think basically endorses more hydro, something environmentalists have been opposed to for years in Quebec. These are strange days indeed.
